Understanding the proper usage of a fire extinguisher is crucial. All fire extinguishers operate on a fundamentally similar principle:

1. Pull the safety pin from the handle.
2. Aim the extinguisher nozzle or hose at the base of the fire. (not directly at the flames)
3. Squeeze the handle slowly to discharge the agent.
4. Sweep from side to side, while maintaining a safe distance from the fire.

Fire extinguishers are divided into three types:

1. Powder
2. Foam
3. Carbon dioxide
