FIRE SAFETY IN PUBLIC BUILDINGS
If caught in a fire within a public building:
- Upon entering an unfamiliar building, such as a shopping center or office, make a mental note of the locations of main and emergency exits.
- Stay calm and composed if you hear shouts of "Fire!", detect smoke, or if the fire alarm activates. Reassure those nearby.
- Evacuate promptly using stairs; avoid elevators.
- Steer clear of smoky areas as burning plastics emit toxic substances. Cover your respiratory tract with a handkerchief or sleeve.
- Safeguard children, women, and the elderly when moving through a crowd. Offer assistance to those overwhelmed by fear.
- Create space for children, either in front or on your shoulders.
- In crowded evacuation routes, remove scarves or shawls, fold your arms, and press them against your chest to avoid being trapped. Avoid standing near glass walls, shop windows, and columns, or holding onto objects obstructing the way.
